What are the benefits of feed & weed? Last Updated: 23/08/2024

A well-maintained lawn is the pride of joy for any homeowner, providing a lush, green space for relaxation, recreation and aesthetically pleasing. However, achieving and maintaining a fantastic lawn doesn't just rely on the requirement of regular mowing.

One of the most effective strategies for a healthy and vibrant lawn is the use of feed and weed treatments providing the perfect solution to fertisiling and keeping weeds under control.

In this blog, we will discuss the benefits of our feed and weed products and our standard treatment programme providing 5 treatments throughout the year, keeping your lawn in top condition all year long.

5 Benefits of Feed & Weed Applications

1. Convenience and Efficiency

Our feed and weed products offer the convenience of dual action—feeding your grass while eliminating weeds in a single application. Whilst we apply them as separate products, they are both provided in the same visit, allowing homeowners to maintain their lawns more efficiently without needing separate visits.

2. Improved Lawn Health

The products we use are formulated with essential nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, as well as a number of trace elements. These nutrients promote strong root development, vibrant green colour, and dense growth, enhancing the overall health and appearance of your lawn. A well-nourished lawn is more resilient to environmental stresses, drought, and diseases.

3. Effective Weed Control

Weeds compete with grass for nutrients, water, and sunlight, often leading to patchy and unhealthy lawns. Our feed and weed treatments effectively target and eliminate common weeds, allowing your grass to thrive without the worry of weeds taking over. This results in a more uniform and visually appealing lawn.

4. Seasonal Adaption

The treatment plan is designed to cater to the specific needs of your lawn throughout the year which also includes an annual aeration in the winter period. Each treatment is tailored to the seasonal requirements of your grass, ensuring optimal growth and health during different stages of the growing season. In winter, we include moss control and we provide annual aeration to help lawns with drainage, which in turn helps stop moss occurrence.

Standard Treatment Programme

Our comprehensive standard treatment programme ensures that your lawn receives the right care at the right time, maximising its health and appearance throughout the year.

The treatment plan is always adjusted as needed, but we've broke down the treatments you'll typically receive in each season:

Spring treatment

Spring Treatment:

The focus for this treatment is on giving your lawn a strong start as the weather warms up. Our fertiliser choice at this time of the year is based on how your lawns have fared throughout the winter months. The general preference is a balanced granular feed with weeds also being controlled with selective weed-killers. A reasonable level of nitrogen is typically included as we don't want excessive growth occurring.

Early summer treatment

Early Summer Treatment:

This is the time when all of our customers want their lawn looking the best. Using a micro-granular fertiliser ensures that your lawn remains thick and green throughout the summer, whilst also helping fight off common summer lawn diseases. Persistent weeds can often make an appearance in any turfed areas at this time of year, therefore we target these too.

Late summer treatment

Late Summer Treatment:

The main factor to consider is the resilience of the grass and how it has handled the heat and whether severe drought has caused the lawn to become stressed. Some summers are very dry and some are far wetter, so this will typically be the most influencing factor of which choice of fertiliser we use. We typically use either a nitrogen compound feed or a balanced nitrogen/potassium feed containing essential trace elements to power the uptake of nutrients and maintain a dense grass sward for autumn. Any other weed problems are also taken care of, if necessary, too.

Autumn treatment

Autumn:

One of the most important treatments of the programme - this ensures that your lawn is prepped and ready for the colder winter conditions. We typically use a fertiliser with a high potassium content as this helps toughen up the grass leaves for the harsh winter ahead. A tougher grass leaf means it can withstand attacks of disease more effectively and also help stop moss infestation. Our autumn fertilisers are longevity fertilisers, meaning they release in smaller amounts but over a longer period of time. This is important because it means that the soil has sufficient nutrients provided over many months.

Winter treatment

Winter:

A liquid root development fertiliser is applied where it's primarily being absorbed through the leaves and helps give your lawn a quick reactive ‘green-up’. If your lawn has experienced moss, then this treatment will help stop moss development as we include moss control. The liquid foliar fertiliser and the moss control are applied in a single application. Your annual aeration treatment is also scheduled in the winter months to help with drainage issues, which in turn then inhibits moss development.

Conclusion:

Our standard treatment plan helps maintain a beautiful and healthy lawn all-year-round with the inclusion of moss control applications and annual aeration, ensuring the build-up of moss in your lawn remains minimal all year round. Discover our feed and weed programme and enjoy the benefits of a vibrant, green lawn that enhances your home's kerb appeal and provides a perfect outdoor space for relaxation and enjoyment.
